Maths

Support your child with recognising and ordering numbers to 20. This is an essential target for the end of Reception.

Discuss language based around shape, space and measure. Including:

  • Weight – Heavier than, lighter than, light, heavy etc.
  • Size – Bigger than, smaller than, tall, short etc.
  • Capacity – Full, half full, empty
  • 2D shapes and 3D shapes – name and describe. E.g. a square has four sides all the same length.

English- Talk 4 Writing

The children have been learning the story ‘Jack and the Beanstalk’. Read (use YouTube) this story to your child and see if they can join in with the main parts, e.g. ‘Fee, Fi, Fo, Fum, I smell the blood of an Englishman!’ The children have also particularly enjoyed learning the song - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pf9cVnfyhjM

  1. Have a go at writing instructions on how to plant a seed, and possibly have a go at planting one too.
  2. See if they can use their phonic knowledge to write what they would see if they went up a beanstalk and past the clouds. E.g. unicorns and a castle, dinosaurs etc.
