Religious Education
In the ever-growing, multi-cultural society that we live in today, the importance for our future generations to understand different cultures and therefore, different religious beliefs is greater than ever. At Longford Park Primary Academy we want our pupils to learn about what other people believe in and how this shapes them as a person. We want pupils to make connections between the beliefs of others and the beliefs of themselves. Alongside our British Values and our PSHE curriculum, our RE curriculum will equip pupils with a deep knowledge and understanding of the modern world. In doing so, we enable our children to make their own informed decisions and to have the aspiration and confidence to voice their views. In order to achieve this, our RE curriculum follows the Gloucestershire Agreed Syllabus, which has the following three aims:
- 1. Make sense of a range of religious and non-religious beliefs.
- 2. Understand the impact and significance of religious and non-religious beliefs.
- 3. Make connections between religious and non-religious beliefs, concepts, practices and ideas studied.
At Longford Park, we encourage our pupils to ‘fly high’ and in order to do this, we will also make cross curricular link with famous religious figures who have had their own accomplishments, such as Ghandi, Mother Teresa and Ibn Battuta.

Religious Education in EYFS
In EYFS, children build on the foundations of their understanding of belief by looking at themselves, who they are and where do they belong. They are able to explain who and what in their lives are special to them. They build relationships with their peers and begin to understand that we are all unique and have different interests. They also look at Christmas and why this is special to different people.
Religious Education in Key Stage 1 (Years 1 and 2)
In Key Stage One, pupils progress from understanding who they are and what is important to them to understanding other religions and what is important to those who belong to that particular faith. Pupils begin to learn about the key beliefs of Christianity, Islam and Judaism and how these beliefs impact on the way the the people of these faiths live.
Religious Education in Key Stage 2 (Years 3, 4, 5 and 6)
In Key Stage Two, pupils build on their understanding of the three faiths learnt in Key Stage one and learn about about other beliefs including non-religious beliefs. Children use the information that they learn to make connections between the beliefs of others and themselves. They learn how a person's religious belief can impact how they go about their daily lives and impact on the decisions that they make.
