French
At LPPA, we believe learning a foreign language is an exciting and important part of your child's education. As part of the Primary National Curriculum, French is taught to all children in Key Stage 2. Our aim is to help every child become confident, curious, and passionate about learning French and exploring new cultures.
Our approach to learning french
We focus on developing five key skills that are essential for learning a language:
- Speaking
- Listening
- Reading
- Writing
- Grammar
We work hard to make sure that all children build a strong foundation in these areas, preparing them for the next steps in their language learning journey. By learning these skills, children will not only be able to understand what they hear and read, but also express themselves clearly in both speech and writing. Along the way, they will explore how French and English are similar and different, and discover new cultures by comparing French-speaking countries with their own.
Our French Curriculum
At LPPA, we use the Language Angels programme to guide our French lessons. This programme is designed to be engaging, fun, and full of interesting topics that inspire children to learn. It focuses on three key areas of language learning:
- Phonics – The sounds and pronunciation of French words.
- Grammar – Understanding how the language works.
- Vocabulary – Building a rich store of words and phrases.
Our curriculum helps children progress year by year, revisiting and expanding their vocabulary to ensure they continue to improve. We aim for every child to feel confident using their French skills and excited to keep learning in the future.
Key learning goals
By the end of their time at LPPA, we want our pupils to:
- Feel confident in their ability to speak, listen, read, and write in French.
- Understand key grammar concepts and how language works.
- Develop a genuine interest and curiosity about French language and culture.
- Appreciate the diversity of the world and have a deeper understanding of other cultures.
We want our students to enjoy learning French and feel inspired to continue studying languages beyond Key Stage 2, becoming life-long learners.
