Pupil Parliament
Our Pupil Parliament plays an important role in our day to day running of our school. We have tried to replicate how parliament is run by our government to give pupils a secure understanding of this, which links in with our British Value of democracy.
At the beginning of the academic year, pupils from Year 1 - 6 are given the opportunity to run as members of parliament (MPs) for their classes, which we link to MPs for different constituencies. At the same time, Year 6 pupils are given the opportunity to run for Prime Minister (PM) of the school. Pupils who are running for MP have to create a manifesto and deliver a speech to their class and then two children from each class are selected as MP. This gives us 12 MPs across the school. For pupils running for PM, they have to deliver their speech to the whole school. They then create posters, which are presented around the school. Every child is then given the opportunity to vote for the candidate that they would like become PM.
Once elected, the Prime Minister selects other Year 6 pupils as their cabinet to lead different aspects of school life. These include Ministers for education, finance, community, technology, eco and playtimes.
The Prime Minister and their cabinet meet regularly to share ideas of the pupils' from their classes. The Prime Minister then regularly meets with Mrs Preedy to discuss these ideas, which are then fed back to the pupils
