Welcome to our Year 1 class page. The pupils in Year 1 are friendly and try their best in all areas of their learning.
Our teachers are Mrs Newell (Monday and Tuesday) and Mrs Best (Wednesday-Friday). We also have Mrs McKenzie and Miss Allen who support us in our learning.
We hope you enjoy scrolling through our page to see what we get up to this year. You can also find letters, curriculum overviews and homework on this page too.
Autumn Term News
The children have settled brilliantly into their first term in Year 1. They have adjusted well to the new routines and have been consistently positive towards their learning journey.
In English, we have really enjoyed listening to and joining in with lots of wonderful stories, including Oi Dog!, Stuck, The Enormous Turnip, Too Much Stuff, The Three Billy Goats Gruff, Stick Man and Dear Father Christmas. We have also been working hard on our handwriting and practicing our letter formation, making sure we feel confident and ready for all the exciting Year 1 learning ahead.
In Phonics, we have been revisiting the Phase 5 sounds and words we learnt in Reception, and we are now continuing our journey by learning new sounds and using them in our reading and writing.
In Maths, we have been developing our number knowledge, particularly learning all about the teen numbers, using lots of different manipulatives to help us. We also had great fun exploring 2D shapes.
In History, we explored toys from the past, and the children were fascinated to handle real artefacts from The Wilson Museum. During PSHE, we talked about the people who love and care for us, and the children really enjoyed sharing and chatting about their families. In Computing, we learned about the technology around us and had the exciting chance to use laptops independently. In science, we explored animals, with the children taking on the role of scientists by describing and classifying them. In art, the children practiced sketching and created pieces that included a variety of lines and tones.
In PE we enjoyed being outside practicing our ball skills, as well as learning how to relax our bodies through stretch and movement.
In Autumn 1, we had our Forest School sessions, where we enjoyed den building, the mud kitchen, bug hunting, digging, and lots more outdoor fun. We invited our parents to the last Forest School session of the term, where we got to show them everything we explore each week. We even finished with a cosy campfire and yummy s’mores!
